Swiss police have issued urgent warnings against news that appears threatening. Cybercriminals send blackmail emails mainly to companies. The emails are linked to the threat to plant a bomb on the property if a ransom is not paid, as can be seen on the Internet portal polizei-schweiz.ch.
The extortion emails were written in English or German. The subject line says “You better listen to me” or “You better listen to me !!!” The scammers demanded $ 20,000 in Bitcoin. If the requirement is not met or the police are informed, the bomb explodes.
That’s what the police recommend
The police recommend that the affected persons or companies never pay the requested ransom. Those affected should investigate on the Internet if the same or similar incidents are already known. Also, it is recommended to enter the Bitcoin wallet address at www.bitcoinabuse.com.
If, contrary to expectations, there are specific suspicions that it is not spam, the police should be contacted immediately. If money has already been transferred, it must be reported to the local police station and a report must be made.
The cantonal police of Schaffhausen and Basel-Landschaft have received specific information from companies that have received such blackmail emails in recent days. For their part, they warn of this new scam. (SDA)
