As Christoph Gnägi from the Bern Canton Police Press Office said, at the request on Saturday, the police first asked participants to leave the unauthorized demonstration. According to Gnägi, some responded to this request. Others do not.
These around 25 people were subsequently checked and must await a report, as the Bern canton police announced on Twitter on Saturday night.
According to Gnägi, a crime against the ban on demonstrations with more than 15 participants, imposed by the cantonal government of Bern in December, is a possible crime. This as part of the measures against the spread of the coronavirus. Disobedience to official orders is also a possible crime, continues Gnägi.
What is meant is the refusal on the part of the rally to leave the Bundesplatz. According to the spokesperson for the police media, some participants in the rally followed the rules of distance and some also wore face masks.
As reported by “Berner Zeitung” and “Der Bund”, there was also a small demonstration march through the old town of Bern on the sidelines of the demonstration and the Bern Canton police sent a water cannon to the Bundesplatz as a precaution. (sda)
