The Aargau canton police are using surveillance camera footage to search for strangers who have tried to blow up three gas-filled ATMs. The failed attempts were made in August in Arni and Beinwil am See and in September in Mellingen.
There the ATM caught fire, as the cantonal police announced on Tuesday. However, you cannot steal money. The unknown alleged perpetrators each injected gas from a gas cylinder into the ATM with a hose. Then they would have lit a fuse.
Based on previous investigations and surveillance camera footage, the police assume that the same perpetrators were involved in all three blast attempts. Look for witnesses.
In recent months, several ATMs in various Swiss locations have exploded, including in Utzenstorf BE, Büren an der Aare BE, and Vicosoprano GR. In other cases, the project failed, for example at Bellach SO or at Rothrist AG.
