On Monday morning a bomb threat was received in writing from the Pieterlen local government. After the administration contacted the police, the police cordoned off the town center for a good two hours.
Police said Monday afternoon there was no danger.
As Dominik Jäggi of the Canton of Bern Police Media Office said on request, the police did not find any suspicious items. Investigations into the perpetrator of the bomb threat were now underway. This had been received in writing on Monday morning. The police do not comment on the content and the recipient of the threat.
Town center affected by closure
An area in the center of the village, located at the southern foot of the Jura northeast of Biel in the direction of Solothurn, was affected by the closure. Several buildings and apartments were evacuated in the area, Jäggi said. People were also asked to stay in their homes.
During the closing of the town center, the local fire department established a detour. In addition to the Bern Cantonal Police, the fire brigade is also deployed in Pieterlen.
