The small airline of the Swiss people, which mainly flies from St. Gallen-Altenrhein airport to Vienna (A), was about to fight its way out of the crown crisis step by step. It finally looked good. The airline, which caused a sensation in 2016 with the “world’s shortest scheduled flight”, decided to operate the St. Gallen-Altenrhein to Vienna route twice a day again. But just one day after the expanded flight plan took effect, the airline was again rejected.
Quarantine is mandatory for travelers from Vienna to Switzerland from September 14. “A lot of Swiss are canceling now, understandably,” Thomas Mary, People’s Air Group chief financial officer and press spokesman, tells BLICK.
Austrians fly, Swiss cancel
After all: “On the Vorarlberg side there has been no cancellation so far. Austrians can still fly from Altenrhein to Vienna without the obligation to quarantine. “People’s Airline is known for this route. But they also fly to other destinations.
Including Sardinia (I), Greece and Corsica (F). But also since September 14, the quarantine is also mandatory for Corsica. Another setback. “On Sunday we brought all the travelers back and now we have stopped the route to Corsica,” says Thomas Mary.
“We will run out of air at some point”
Before the hammer of Qurantaine, it seemed to the airline that the situation would finally improve after the truce related to the crown. Therefore, according to the press release, the flight hours were optimistically extended “due to the positive evolution of demand.”
Now the future looks bleak again: “If it continues like this, at some point we’ll run out of breath,” says Thomas Mary. Now keep watching the developments and readjust the flight plan if necessary.
However, starting in late September, this will be done without Thomas Mary himself. People’s Air Group CFO will leave the company by “mutual agreement.” In a press release published today, “leaner structures at People’s” were announced. (euc)
