After approval, the Federal Office wants to speed up vaccination. But due to the high costs, there is a new dispute between the federal government and the cantons.
Things should go fast once a vaccine is approved in Switzerland. According to the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), the coronavirus vaccination campaign could begin in January, and just a few months later, most people in Switzerland should already be vaccinated. For the first time, the BAG offers a specific time frame: “We assume that everyone who wants to get vaccinated, including the general population, can do so in early summer.”
It is clear that the risk groups are vaccinated first: the elderly and those with chronic diseases. Who receives it depends on the availability of vaccines and their delivery. Because this is staggered according to the BAG.
