Turkey is in a surprisingly good position with a new corona infection. The authorities reported an average of 1,600 cases in recent days, and that with 82 million inhabitants.
By comparison: Switzerland, which is ten times smaller in terms of population, currently records an average of 500 cases a day, yesterday even 700. But beware: Turkey is cheating. Official statistics only show those patients who need medical treatment. Fahrettin Koca (55), Health Minister to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (66), had to admit under pressure from the opposition that the number of effective new infections is much higher. According to estimates by the opposition, the number of new infections should be around 10,000 every day.
Registry with 29,000 cases
Deputy Murat Emir (51) of the CHP social democratic party added up the results of laboratory tests at the national level and counted 29,000 new infections on September 10 alone. Official statistics recorded only around 1500 cases for that day.
Minister Koca justifies the counting method on the grounds that not all infected people get sick and the vast majority of those infected have no complaints.
With this trick, Turkey has ignored the numbers for weeks since the end of July. Turkey then used the low values to drum for a carefree holiday on the Bosphorus. Several countries had withdrawn their travel advisories due to supposedly low numbers.
Britain is taking action
The World Health Organization (WHO) is now asking Ankara to calculate and publish the crown numbers according to UN standards. Britain is already cracking down and has immediately removed Turkey from the list of safe travel countries. Thousands of British vacationers will be quarantined upon their return.
