On Tuesday, Marco Chiesa visited Alain Berset. The head of the SVP (46, TI) visits the Minister of Health (48, SP), nothing unusual really. Especially not in times of pandemic. But two politicians met in Bern whose positions in this crisis can no longer be reconciled.

As a description of a chropfleerete and the failed attempt to clarify the hardened fronts between the right-wing party and the state government, this is formulated in a surprisingly friendly way. Chiesa puts it this way: “It was a very sincere conversation between a Federal Councilor and a party president who did not have the same opinion.”
This, too, is a charming understatement: On Friday, the SVP charged Berset’s Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) with “dictatorial movements” via Twitter.
The fronts between Berset and Chiesa remain hardened
The SVP has devoted itself wholeheartedly to the Corona opposition. A few days before the meeting with Chiesa, the leader of the SVP parliamentary group Thomas Aeschi (42, ZG) attacked Berset in the health commission head-on. Those present described Aeschi’s accusation that the Federal Council ignored parliament, but above all the aggressiveness of his appearance as “the last drawer” or “beyond”. Aeschi said he had clearly and clearly faced Berset on the commission. “In his answer he avoided my questions.”
The right-wing party has long taken every opportunity to express its dissatisfaction with the Federal Council’s policy. But since he de facto decreed a second blockade in mid-January, the accusations have grown more strident. The restrictions on public life go too far, some industries even have their necks broken, complains the senior vice president. However, the benefit of these state interventions is more than questionable. “Unfortunately, there are deaths in life,” said SVP National Councilor Thomas Matter (54, ZH) in SRF “Rundschau”: “Otherwise, you shouldn’t even be born.” Berset, the senior vice president in a statement demanded that the health record be withdrawn. There is no common ground.
What remains is the impression of a party attempting to profit politically from a demonstrative counter position. The brutal criticism is staggering, especially since no other political group currently has more politicians at state checkpoints than the SVP.
The SVPers are the main responsible
Economy Minister Guy Parmelin (61) has been federal president since the beginning of the year. The finance minister is his party colleague Ueli Maurer (70). To overcome the economic crisis, it is these two magistrates from the right-wing party who have a decisive voice in solutions such as compensation in cases of economic hardship. The party also has a responsibility in the cantons: the health directors of the three most populous German-speaking Swiss estates are SVP members. The president of the National Council, Andreas Aebi (62), a member of the SVP, has been in office as the nominally highest Swiss since December. Alex Kuprecht (63), also a member of the SVP, will lead the discussions in the Council of States.
The strongest party in the country plays a decisive role in the second year of the crisis, for better or for worse, like it or not.
At the moment she doesn’t want to. It seems that the SVP has absolutely nothing to do with the politics of the federal government and the cantons, in whose executive bodies it is prominently represented. SP’s health minister was shot by name. Even some comrades now admit that Berset did too well in the public eye during the first phase of the pandemic. Yet his right-wing critics present the situation as if the Freiburg resident alone determined the direction of the mostly bourgeois state government.
The leader of the SVP parliamentary group, Aeschi, sees the reason for this in the fact that Berset presents his proposals on very short notice before government meetings: “Proposals from the Berset department regularly reach the other federal councilors at the last minute. the night before the meeting. There is almost no time for changes. Majorities play differently. “
Overwhelming Berset demotes Parmelin and Mason
