A wave of phishing cases has overwhelmed the residents of the Obwalden canton in recent weeks. The perpetrators always proceeded according to the same scheme as the Obwalden cantonal police on Friday night.
The criminals tried to obtain personal information about the injured party through fake websites operated by administrations, the post office or Swisscom. Obwalden Canton Police have received reports of fraud of this type on several occasions in recent weeks.
The injured were asked by email or phone message to open a link. Then, through fake websites, they were instructed to make payments or provide personal details about credit cards or bank accounts.
Most of the victims did not respond
The scammers then tried to debit higher amounts thanks to the login details and account information. Fortunately, that was often the case because affected people reacted correctly, he said.
The canton police expressly warn against opening emails or attachments from unknown addresses or clicking on links. Serious service providers like the post office, banks and authorities would never get information by email or phone. (SDA)
