The Federal Council will decide on new corona measures on Wednesday. Health Minister Alain Berset’s plan has now been leaked. According to information from “Blick”, it is planned, among other things, that restaurants can only serve their guests until 10 at night. After that there is a curfew until 6 am. A maximum of four people must also sit at a table. Parents with children are an exception. Discos and dance halls must be closed completely, and dance events must be prohibited.
But not only should dining and nightlife be restricted, but masking requirements should also be expanded. In the future, it should also be applied outdoors, at least in residential areas, according to the draft. But that is not all.
If the Minister of Health has his way, universities should go completely back to distance education. For teachers and 7th graders, a mask should also be applied. Except in situations where a mask makes teaching difficult.
Sport should only be allowed without physical contact and with a maximum number of 15 participants. A mask must be worn indoors and distance must be kept. A mask should be worn outdoors if distance cannot be maintained. However, the operation of the professional league is still permitted. Competitive national team athlete training and competitions are also allowed. Training and competition games of teams belonging to a league with predominantly professional gaming operations are also permitted.
And choir concerts should also be banned. In the professional field, rehearsals and concerts with singers can only be carried out with protective concepts. And choir concerts are completely prohibited.
Another point is that private events like family celebrations are limited to 15 people. A maximum limit of 50 people should apply to public events. The political assemblies of the legislature at the federal, cantonal and communal levels are expressly excluded from the restriction on the number of people.
The Federal Council also proposes that a mask is mandatory in indoor work if an individual office is not available or if a mask cannot be worn for safety reasons. Employers must also ensure that employees can work from home whenever possible.
The proposals of the Minister of Health, Alain Berset, are currently in consultation with the cantons. If they are actually implemented and to what extent, not only Berset will decide on Wednesday, but the entire Federal Council.
