- Three days after a violent landslide in Norway, rescue teams make another attempt to find survivors in the disaster area.
- The accident happened early Wednesday morning in Ask in the municipality of Gjerdrum, about 40 kilometers northeast of Oslo.
- Nine people, including two children, remain missing. 1000 people were saved.
After the affected region was searched with drones and thermal cameras overnight, emergency services again set out on foot towards the landslide area on Saturday morning. It is still a rescue operation and survivors are still expected to be found, the police operations chief said. There were no new finds overnight.
700 meters by 300 meters
The landslide occurred early Wednesday morning in Ask in the municipality of Gjerdrum, about 40 kilometers northeast of Oslo. It expanded to a length of about 700 meters and a width of 300 meters. At least ten people were injured and nine houses collapsed as a result of their departure. Around 1000 people were brought to safety.
On Friday, emergency services found a first fatality in the area of the landslide. This person has not yet been identified, but is likely one of 10 people who would be missing after the departure, police said Friday night. According to a police list, two minors are among the missing, including a girl born in 2018. The oldest person on the list is a woman born in 1951.
