Nöldi Forrer can do it not only in sawdust, but also on the stage of the show. The 2001 wrestling king wows on “The Masked Singer Switzerland” on “Pro7” in the disguise of the sea god, and gives him goosebumps with his singing skills.
Forrer doesn’t just sing. In recent weeks he has become a crowd favorite with his powerful voice and almost won the show: Only pop star Baschi, disguised as a marmot, can hold a candle to Forrer, the god of the sea, and he wins.
“Masked Schwinger” Forrer: “I had to get rid of my inhibitions first”(01:39)
Inhibitions and English as the biggest challenge
In spring, when the application to participate in Forrer came in, it was not yet obvious. Because before he could sing in front of an audience, the 42-year-old had to shed his inhibitions, the biggest challenge. “The first few times I was on Skype with my vocal coach, I always had to turn or close the laptop,” Forrer reveals. “I couldn’t sing when someone was watching.”
But because the mask offers some protection, Nöldi adds up anyway and exceeds the inhibition threshold. Furthermore, the language gives him particular problems. Immediately after each performance, he began working on the next song. “The ambition to be an elite athlete helped. But learning was very difficult for me because I don’t speak English very well. Nothing got stuck there. “
Adi Käser exposed Forrer
The 147 crown winner also masters this challenge. But what it does not achieve is to go unnoticed. His wrestling colleague Adrian Käser (49) recognized Forrer immediately. One day, the 1989 king surprised Nöldi by phone when he said: “You are the god of the sea.”
Käser recalled Schwinger’s trip to the Grand Canyon in 2002, when Forrer gave the best of the classic “Country Roads” to his colleagues. Nöldi: “Adi said I had chicken skin back then and that’s why she recognized me immediately.”
In the future, Forrer wants to again limit his singing skills to his circle of friends. “I prefer to sing in a cozy circle, even if I have overcome my inhibitions,” says the animator. An appearance at a big wrestling festival? Forrer immediately rejects it. So he adds: “Never say never.” (SME)
