Thomas Krech (67) has tired of the annoying measures of the crown. The doctor and businessman from the canton of Thurgau has drawn up an explosive discussion paper that is causing a stir in Switzerland and now also in Bern. The bold plan: get out of prison in eight days. The proposal goes far beyond the quick test offensive announced by the federal government.
Krech is an e-doctor. He runs Misanto AG, a telemedicine provider, in Frauenfeld. With his company, he is already carrying out a remarkable part of the crown tests in the canton of Thurgau. Now Krech wants more, as “NZZ” and the Swiss trade association reported on Friday. The doctor describes his idea in a document available to SEE.

Shipment of 10 million rapid antigen tests. All Swiss households and people in the nearby border area should receive a package. And everything should work very simply. Krech is based on a test in which harvesting is only done in the front area of the nose. The result is obtained in minutes. The problem: In Switzerland, these quick tests are not yet approved for their own four walls. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) is working on it.

Now things really start. People get tested at home. All residents are asked to record their test results online in a central database. Those that are positive should be isolated immediately. Roommates would also have to be quarantined. Krech expects 50,000 positive results.
Label 2
Everyone who tested positive on the first day must now perform the safe PCR test to confirm the result. The saliva test tube has already been sent home. This is to avoid sitting in isolation unnecessarily.
Label 3
Anyone who has returned to be corona positive in the PCR test should be isolated for ten days. Kresch has about 40,000 people.
Label 4
Resend 10 million rapid antigen tests.
Label 5
The game start again. With the second self-test, all cases of corona should actually be recognized. Because on the first day there should have been some infected people who didn’t have enough virus in their body.
Label 6
Now it is checked again. Anyone who tested positive on the fifth day should perform the safe PCR test to confirm the result.
Label 7
Anyone who is also positive in the PCR test must remain isolated. Krech has around 8,000 people.
Label 8
Closing closed! If enough households have participated, a large proportion of all infected people have now been identified and isolated. Krech expects the number of cases to drop suddenly as a result. Means: the Confederation and the cantons can lift restrictions on social and economic life.

After the show of force in recent days, the task is to keep Switzerland as virus-free as possible. Krech suggests that all those entering the country should still take a quick test at border crossings. There should still be massive testing, but no longer at the national level. And: the obligation to wear a mask must be respected.
Post and Roche would be ready
But is it all feasible? In an interview with BLICK, Krech emphasizes that Swiss companies are ready. The Basel pharmaceutical company Roche has confirmed to you that they have the 20 million rapid antigen tests required in stock. And Swiss Post assured the doctor that, as a logistics company, it could organize distribution to all households. Krech would take about two weeks to prepare. He estimates the one-time costs of 400 million Swiss francs, then around 10 million Swiss francs a day for testing at the borders.
His plan was discussed in the Federal Council
Thurgauer’s mega plan is hotly debated in Bern. The document was a topic at the Federal Council meeting. But Health Minister Alain Berset (48) opted for a less daring variant and launched the Federal Council’s rapid testing offensive announced on Friday. “It’s a shame, I’m convinced of my idea,” Krech tells BLICK. “But I’m glad something happened after all.”
He does not give up and wants to continue to pressure politics. Because Krech firmly believes that it can only become an army in the medium term with many tests of the virus. “We could have Corona under control in eight days,” he says.
Whether the strategy works if applied depends on the motivation of Mr. and Mrs. Schweizer. Because only if enough households participate, the number of infections could drop significantly. Krech also has an answer ready for this: a federal government information campaign should make it work. Schools and businesses should also be included. “It can work,” he confidently admits.
