Private security companies in Ticino have had a major problem for several months. Since this spring, they can no longer employ cross-border workers. The Swiss authorities refuse to grant the permit. This is what the “CH Media” newspapers report.
The responsible police station (Servizio armi ed esplosivi della Polizia) confirmed the problem. In a letter to security companies in Ticino, he admits that no more permits will be issued to Italian citizens.
As a consequence, Securitas and other private security companies have to give up the employment of cross-border travelers. Worse still: it even affects Italians who have recently moved to Switzerland, annual residents with a B permit who have resided in the canton for less than five years.
Four cases in Securitas
The problem is that Italians no longer provide security-relevant personal information. Due to a new interpretation of an existing agreement. Obviously, the talks with the Italian partners failed.
The cantonal police authorities are in possession of this additional information for Swiss citizens or annual residents who have resided in the Canton of Ticino for more than five years. Not with the others. However, these are a prerequisite for employment.
Securitas confirms the problem. The company has been waiting three months for the renewal of four cross-border commuter work permits. A total of 370 people work for the company in Ticino. “Let’s hope that the problem will be solved soon,” director Stefano Moro tells the “CH Media” newspapers.
The councilor responsible for the government of the Lega, Norman Gobbi (43), sees the Italians as responsible. “For the moment, it is up to the Italian authorities to resolve the deadlock,” he wrote to Ticino security companies. But Gobbi also has to answer. Leftist politicians accuse him of “abuse of the rule of law.” (ise)
