0: 4 was the most common result of FC Zurich’s defeats last season. With this result, newcomer Lausanne’s Zurich team can not only defeat, but overcome.
The Zurich team played well in the first twelve minutes. It seemed that they could continue the gradual progress that coach Ludovic Magnin had made in the matches in Bern (1: 2) and against Lugano (2: 2). They dominated, and ex-Lausanne native Benjamin Kololli created a good opportunity that he couldn’t take from a tight angle.
Then came the 12th minute when the Vaudois went ahead with their first attack. Stjepan Kukuruzovic unleashed the attack with an opening pass to the side, Aldin Turkes closed it at point-blank range. Kukuruzovic and Turkes played once for FCZ and were unsuccessful. On Saturday, Kukuruzovic, the Bernese from Oberlander, was the most striking and possibly the best man on the field.
The early goal completely changed the face of the game. The team of coach Giorgio Contini, started with four points in two games after promotion, now dominated as they wanted and already had chances of four or five goals in the first half. It was enough until the break but only to make it 2-0. Cameron Puertas scored it with a tremendous shot from 25 meters.
Consistently dominant climbers
In the second half, the Vaudois achieved the lead in the safest way possible: with a game in the opponent’s half of the field, with more dominance and more attacks. Midway through the second half, before the 3-0 draw, the Zurich team came very close to the connecting goal twice, but there were no high-profile chances. Ludovic Magnin will have to record that the performance at Pontaise was a serious step backwards. His team was dominated, as normally only happens to a team from a lower division. The Zurich team can really take advantage of the international break that follows.
Not so for Lausanne. They played even better than in the opening win against Servette. Offensive youngsters Cameron Puertas and Joël Monteiro, two creations of their own, made it clear that they could soon forget or at least make up for the heavy starts from Andi Zeqiri and Dan Ndoye.
After penalty shootout drama: Lugano – Sion ends in a 2-2 draw
The game in Cornaredo took a little while to start, but it became increasingly intense towards the end. FC Sion twice won the lead in Ticino, and twice the team of former Sion coach Maurizio Jacobacci showed a reaction. It took 40 minutes in Lugano to score the first goal of the game and Sion’s first goal of the entire season.
Fabio Grosso had to wait a total of 220 minutes for his players to have a sense of accomplishment, the 1-0 should have exactly coincided with the Italian’s match plan. Gaëtan Karlen fought for Stefano Guidotti’s ball in the Ticino half, through Tosetti he found the foot of Anto Grgic 18 meters from the goal, who hit the right corner with a precise low shot.
Penalty drama in the final stages
Twelve minutes after the break, Lugano showed that the home team can also play football well. Stefano Guidotti (57th) found himself behind Sandi Lovric’s paragraph trick. While the player’s technical skills were the focus of the first two goals, it was the set of rules for Geoffroy Serey Dies’ penalty goal (73) and Fabio Daprelà’s late draw (82).
Only Sion’s third penalty attempt landed by Serey Die according to the rules, previously referee Fedayi San had the penalty replayed twice due to early moves by Lugano goalkeeper Sebastian Osigwe, Daprelàs 2: 2 was only approved after consult the video referee.
