Dawid Kubacki wins the New Year’s competition at the Four Hills Tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with a hill record.

Defending Tour champion Dawid Kubacki won the second season of the Four Hills Tournament in sovereign fashion. The Pole set a new Olympic hill record with his second 144m jump. He beat previous record holders Simon Ammann and Marius Lindvik by half a meter.

Norwegian World Cup leader Halvor Egner Granerud was second ahead of Piotr Zyla of Poland. Granerud replaced the German Karl Geiger (5th) as the leader of the general classification.

In the fight for the golden eagle, the trophy for victory in the Four Hills Tournament, a four-way battle is emerging. Kubacki, only 15th in Oberstdorf, advanced to 4th place. It is only 5 meters behind Granerud. Geiger and Pole Kamil Stoch are between the two.

Strong Deschwanden, the only precursors to Ammann

Gregor Deschwanden also flew to the points in the ninth race of the season, and this with confidence. He reached the final easily, although he lost the knockout match against Finn Antti Aalto. At 128 m and the 22nd intermediate row, he continued 129.5 m. This brought him to 19th place, also at Aalto’s expense.

Dominik Peter retired with a 120m jump on the first lap. Ammann, which failed to qualify on New Year’s Eve, was only used as a pre-finisher.

So it goes

The third competition of the Four Hills Tournament is scheduled for Sunday in Innsbruck. The decision will be made 3 days later on Wednesday in Bischofshofen.
