A mutated coronavirus is in the UK. A few days ago, this news left many scientists cold. After all, viruses are constantly mutating and that can make them even less harmful. But the current development of the pathogen in England is clearly beyond the usual framework. The new variant called VUI-202012/01, which has spread mainly in southern England, is up to 70 percent more contagious than the old one, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told reporters on Saturday. That now would have resulted in more accurate analysis. It is not yet known whether this new virus is also particularly dangerous, but it must be carefully monitored.
