The German vacation carrier will start this summer from Zurich to Greece, Italy, Croatia and Spain. To do this, he is parking two planes at the Swiss airport.
The airport is not entirely new territory for Condor. When Niki ceased operations, the German holiday airline launched some special flights to bring Swiss tourists to the Canary Islands. But it stayed that way.
Until now. Condor will park two Airbus A320s at Zurich airport this summer. The German holiday airline will offer a total of 28 flights and will head to Gran Canaria, Kos, Crete, Larnaca, Olbia, Palma de Mallorca, Rhodes, Split and Tenerife. It attacks Swiss and its sister Edelweiss, but also smaller suppliers like Chair.
Tour operators are happy to respond
The expansion responds to “the great demand of the main Swiss tour operators” for holiday flights, according to Condor. “I am delighted that we are now also starting a diverse destination portfolio in Zurich,” says CEO Ralf Teckentrup. Three large providers are already responding with enthusiasm: Hotelplan Suisse, Kuoni and Tui Suisse.
Swiss tour operators have repeatedly criticized Swiss and its sister Edelweiss in recent years. These were always too high fees from his point of view. And of course the dominant position of Lufthansa airlines in Zurich. They have a market share of around two thirds.
