The end of the line at the De Akkers train station in Spijkenisse, a suburb of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is decorated with an extraordinary artistic installation. Two huge whale tail fins jut out into the air directly at the end of a pond’s slopes and almost cape over the trail below.
On Monday night, the artwork was dramatically and unintentionally enlarged. The local meter had soared past the end of the line and only stopped just above one of the tail fin.
Elaborate recovery of the remains of the railway
It happened shortly after midnight: the subway enters a buffer stop apparently at high speed, passes the end of the route, and finally lands in the artwork with the driver’s car.
Miraculously, no one was injured in the accident. Even the train conductor had his way with horror, according to Dutch media. He was able to free himself from his cab and climb back onto the tracks from a dizzying height.
It is still not completely clear what led to the accident that was ready for the movie. The laborious recovery was not yet completed on Monday morning. (cat)
