No decrease next season: the National League will increase to 13 clubs

At the extraordinary meeting of the National League and the Swiss League on the Bern ice rink, the clubs decide that no one will be relegated next season. At the same time, it was decided that no one should be denied climbing. Consequently, the National League and the Swiss League next season can be increased to 13 clubs each.

The National League rating must include 52 instead of 50 rounds. The two additional game days that will be included in the game data plan on November 1 and February 14 are called “Solidarity Rounds.”

However, these particular additional rounds, of course, are based on the assumption that the championship can go ahead as planned.

Ten teams in the playoffs

Additionally, ten instead of eight teams qualify for the playoffs. For this, the pre-playoffs are played for the first time. Teams in ranks seven through ten participate after qualification. In a Best-of-3 series, the seventh (with the home advantage) reaches the tithe: the winner of this series begins the playoffs as seventh.

The same applies to the series between eighth and ninth place (the winner is eighth). The season is over for the losers of the previous playoffs. The playoff quarterfinals will be played in the previous mode after the previous playoffs. For teams in ranks eleven and twelve, the season after the regular season is over.

The season should start in September. Ice hockey leagues also have alternative plans if the championship can only be started later. The next league meeting will take place on June 17. (pre / sda)
