SC Bern – Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 1: 2 nP
The game: One point in the Lakers’ anticipated future development in their third NL season since promotion: Goal scoring should be spread across more shoulders. At the same time, it would reduce dependence on foreigners.
Last season in the SCRJ the mercenaries were responsible for 56 percent of the goals scored, in the SCB only 29 percent. The foreign Lakers’ hitting ratio is currently 43 percent, and Berns Brithén and Jeffrey’s 22 percent.
For some time, however, a trio imported from Rappi has weakened: top scorer Cervenka and captain Rowe have not met in five games, Moses in four. In the last game against Zug, three Swiss scorers (Lehmann, Dünner, Eggenberger) were responsible for the turning point after falling 3-0.
The young Swiss’s progress is promising, but it doesn’t make a difference. They also put accents against the SCB, at least more than the mercenary storm with Cervenka, Clark, and Moses.
The Lakers must first catch up and get their bearings, once again giving the opponent overly frivolous and dangerous scoring opportunities in the early phase of a game. But the Bernese do nothing about it. The realization of missed opportunities seems to rob them of momentum and confidence. In the middle third there are more conspicuous individual actions, Pestoni (minute 26) and Praplan (31) break the defense of the SCRJ, but fail.
The beauty awards are not shared in this duel, which is poor in highlights. Haas set a climax in his final game before leaving for Edmonton: he intercepts a pass from SCRJ defender Profico and uses it with precision. However, he takes revenge that the Bernese cannot expand their leadership, they are also far from it in power games.
Captain Moser has a four minute penalty two minutes before the end. Coach Tomlinson replaces goalie Nyffeler with an outfield player, so the Lakers are spared in overtime. But the best goals of the night were not scored until the penalty shoot-out, Rappis Randegger, still without a regular goal this season, charged SCB goalkeeper Wüthrich twice. Lhotak gets the extra point for the SCRJ with the 25 penalty (!) Because Haas misses the 26. For Bern it is the third consecutive bankruptcy. The Lakers maintain this victory after five previous losses.
The best: Nyffeler (SCRJ). Keeps the team in the game, the victory.
The plum: Moser (Bern). A penalty at the wrong time allows Rappi to draw.

Lausanne – EV Zug 4: 3 nP
The game: The night before, the referees had shaped the game with a strict interpretation of the rules, the first of the two major fights in 48 hours. With the avalanche of penalties (58 minutes), the Zugers faced better and thanks to three goals from the power game they got the victory (4: 1). In the second leg, the penalty area once again received regular visitors from the middle third.
Goals are initially scored if there is a tie. First, the guests benefit from the fact that the puck lands in the goal after Simion’s shot from the skid of Lausanne defender Krueger. But to compensate, the once unwell Swiss central may be shattered by the formation of the Lausanne parade on loan from Toronto Malgin and foreigners Hudon and Gibbons. Malgin, who should now stay at Lac Léman even if the NHL starts, scores his ninth goal of the season. And shortly before the break, it’s thanks to EVZ goalkeeper Genoni that Hudon can’t double down after a bad pass from Stadler.
Bitter for Lausanne: The second success of EVZ is also on your account! Heldner deflects a template destined for Simion from Kovar to his own goal. And also for the second goal, which can then be credited to Kovar in the power play, he receives help from the opponent: Boltshauser can be defeated behind the baseline.
But Lausanne does not give up. And two hits from Genazzi’s power play. Frick distracts first. And when Boltshauer gave way to a sixth outfield player, Hudon Genoni covered the view 29 seconds before the end of the game. The decision is only made on the penalty shoot-out. And that’s where Lausanne takes its revenge.
The best: Joël Genazzi (Lausanne). Defender calls first. Then he hits wonderfully on the penalty shootout.
The plum: Carl Klingberg (train). Boltshauser has already played in the last penalty but missed the empty goal.
Tore: 6. Simion (Krueger’s own goal) 0: 1. 30. Malgin (Gibbons, Hudon) 1: 1. 42. Kovar (own goal hero) 1: 2. 46. Kovar (Hofmann, Alatalo / PP) 1: 3. 50. Frick (Genazzi, Bertschy / PP) 2: 3. 60. Genazzi (Barberio, Malgin / Lausanne without goalkeeper) 3: 3. – Penalty shoot: Bertschy 1: 0, Senteler – ; Malgin -, Martschini -; Hudon -, Kovar -; Genazzi 2-0, McLeod 2: 1; Gibbons -, Klingberg -.
