Freiburg new leader: Lions win in Geneva on penalty shoot-out despite leading

Servette – ZSC Lions 3: 4 nP

The ZSC Lions came back from quarantine with a narrow victory. The Zurich team won the highest game of the round in Servette 4: 3 after a penalty shoot-out.

However, in the second clash of the strongest teams in the National League this season, the winner was still unsure after 65 minutes. As on 9 October, when ZSC at the Hallenstadion had to admit defeat to Geneva 4: 5 after a penalty shoot-out after a 3-0, 4-1 lead, coach Rikard Grönborg’s team also got into in the empty Vernets-Hall out of step in the last third. Eric Fehr and Damien Riat made the 0-2 2-2 between the 48th and 54th minutes, heralding a spectacular finish.

Just two minutes before the end of regulation time, Chris Baltisberger put the Zurich team back in the lead. But just twelve seconds later, Linus Omark tied the game in a curious way. The shot from Geneva’s top scorer would have missed in Lukas Flüeler’s case, but the ZSC goalkeeper unfortunately deflected the puck towards his own goal.

On the penalty shootout, Flüeler made four of the six attempts. Fredrik Pettersson shot the ZSC to victory in the first serious fight in 13 days with two penalties converted. After the third loss in the ninth game of the season, Servette is no longer the leader even after losing points.

Freiburg – Biel 4: 1

Friborg-Gottéron leads the National League. Freiburg also held the lead in the third game of the season with Biel and won 4-1 at home. Canadian David Desharnais scored the winning goal in the 13th minute. Beat Forster had previously made up for an early deficit at Biel by 38 seconds. Julien Sprunger had opened the scoring after just under two minutes. It was the Freiburg captain’s first goal in the twelfth game of the season. Shortly before the end, Sprunger hit the empty goal a second time.

While Gottéron remains undefeated after five games in the newly renovated arena and salutes from the top of the table, the downward spiral continues at Biel. Coach Lars Leuenberger’s team was just one winner of the last seven games of the championship. Toni Rajala could have led the game in a different direction in the 47th minute in Freiburg. The Finn withdrew only over Reto Berra with a score of 1: 2, but missed the Freiburg goalkeeper. Berra showed another strong game with 34 saves.

Rapperswil-Jona – Ambri 4: 1

The game between Rapperswil-Jona and Ambri-Piotta turned out to be a one-sided affair. Top scorer Roman Cervenka laid the groundwork for St. Gallen’s 4-1 home win after two losses. The Czech made it 1-0 and 3-0 himself, while Dominik Egli’s 2-0 win gave him the decisive pass. With 14 scorer points in twelve games, Cervenka is something like the Lakers’ life insurance in seventh place.

With the home team, regular goalkeeper Melvin Nyffeler celebrated a successful comeback after his corona disease. In his first serious fight in four weeks, he saved 28 shots. Only the Finn Julius Nättinen (33.) managed to defeat Nyffeler. The 1: 3 in the power play was already the twelfth goal of the season for the league’s top scorer. Ambri has slipped to the bottom of the table after losing points and has now been waiting for a victory on foreign ice for five games.
