In the wake of the global crown crisis, Zermatt Tourism is taking extraordinary solidarity action. As a sign of hope, the Matterhorn is lit up every day in the colors of national flags. The campaign is a work of art by light artist Gerry Hofstetter (58), who now illuminates one of Switzerland’s landmarks on behalf of the municipality of Zermatt VS at night.
“Light is hope!” Zermatt Tourism writes on its website. In this regard, the Matterhorn is illuminated daily from 9.30 p.m. at midnight during the coronavirus pandemic.
With this campaign, Zermatt wanted “to give people a sign of hope and solidarity in this difficult time.” The people show solidarity with all the people who are currently suffering, “he says,” and thank all the people who are helping to survive the crisis. “
“Together,” says this tweet, “we will overcome the crisis.”
Thanks from Dubai
A thank you from abroad was immediate. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) thanked them for lighting up the Matterhorn on Friday in UAE colors. The world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, received the Swiss flag on Sunday.
“We appreciate the beautiful and moving gesture,” the Swiss embassy in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain wrote on Twitter. Switzerland appreciates this sign of friendship and solidarity between the two countries. (kes)
