Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

SRF News: What has been ensured so far about this information?

David Nauer, SRF Moscow correspondent: Nothing is certain, we only have the diametrically contradictory representations of the conflicting parties.

Who has what interests in this conflict?

My impression is that the Armenians want to internationalize this conflict as much as possible. They want to convince the world that they are being attacked not only by Azerbaijanis but also by Turks. And that this attack applies not only to Nagorno-Karabakh, this special area, but also to the central area of Armenia. And the reason for this is simple: Armenia is linked to Russia through a military alliance. If Armenia is really attacked, and then also by a NATO country like Turkey, then the Russians would have to intervene militarily.

Azerbaijanis and Turks have exactly opposite interests. Of course, they want to keep the Russians out of the conflict as much as possible.

Is there a risk that the conflict will spread?

Yes, there is a risk. And I would say that with today and this story about this plane, this conflict will no longer be a local problem, but a regional or, in the worst case, global problem. Another confrontation between Russia and Turkey could ensue. There are similar problems in Syria.

However, there are also inhibitory factors in the Caucasus. Especially since Moscow has so far reacted cautiously to this conflict. One has the impression that the Russians do not want to be drawn into this. Why this is so is a question among experts in Moscow. In any case, it can be seen that official Russia in the Caucasus is trying to further moderate the conflicting parties. Even if so far not with great success.
