What should begin with a Big Horn sheep count in the middle of the desert ends with a find of a special kind.
According to authorities, a helicopter crew found an unusual metal monolith in a remote area of the US state of Utah.
The helicopter helped count sheep in southeastern Utah on Wednesday when crew members spotted the object and landed nearby for a closer inspection, the state’s public safety agency announced Monday (local time). The photos show the column in the middle of a landscape of red rocks characteristic of the region.
Pilot Bret Hutchings told local broadcaster KSL that the object was three to three and a half meters tall. Its origin is not clear. There was no information on the exact location. The authority wants to prevent people from getting lost while visiting the remote place and then having to be rescued. It is illegal to install objects or works of art on state-administered land without a permit, “no matter what planet you come from,” the authority wrote, obviously in jest.
