The cross-country race at the Monte Tamaro MS culminated in a duel between Nino Schurter and Frenchman Titouan Carod. The Graubünden challenger was ahead of the game until shortly before the end, before Schurter could take the lead with a daring maneuver in the last technical section.

It was the crucial scene in an exciting race. Carod couldn’t react anymore and in the end had to congratulate Schurter on his victory. For the Swiss, it is the first European title because he skips the event in normal years. With Mathias Flückiger, another Swiss completed the podium.

Successful rehabilitation

Schurter’s premiere at MS amounts to revenge. The 34-year-old and long-time dominator was left without a victory at this year’s World Cup and World Cup. In the only World Cup season this season in Nove Mesto, he finished third and fourth, in the World Cup it was only enough for ninth place.

Roth had already won silver at the World Cup 9 days earlier.
