The SVP National Councilor Albert Rösti (53) does not understand the Minister of Health Alain Berset (48) at all. “He shoots well above the target,” says the Bernese. And the national councilor of the CVP of Graubünden, Martín Candinas (40), points out that the ski areas already comply with all the requirements of the posters of the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG): wear a mask or keep your distance. “We really don’t need more rules that don’t make sense and are not understandable,” says Candinas.
The federal councilor of the SP, Berset, however, wants to go further in the fight against Corona: the restriction on the number of visitors is controversial. Either ski areas allow a maximum of two-thirds of the number of guests on the most visited day of the previous winter season, or the number of guests is limited to 80 percent of the average Christmas holiday in the past five years. . The necessary clearances must also be strictly adhered to on the ski lifts and, anyway, in the spots.
The stricter rules are not welcome
Mountain cantons like Valais or Graubünden are not particularly enthusiastic about the Berset ordinance project. You have until Wednesday for your comments. One is willing to accept a tightening, says Grisons economic director Marcus Caduff (47, CVP). But now he’s not going to scapegoat ski resorts. People would go to the mountains in the next few weeks anyway. “If we close the ski areas, people will concentrate in the villages.”
The proposed measures are also not well received by the representatives of the mountain cantons in the federal parliament. “With the right protection concepts, the ski season can run smoothly. The tourism industry must be able to function. For them this is vital ”, emphasizes the National Councilor of the CVP of Valais, Philipp Matthias Bregy (42).
There should not be too strong restrictions. “I can still understand the limits of the transport railways, but they certainly don’t make sense on the ski lifts or on the slopes. People are spreading anyway, ”says Bregy. Glarus BDP national advisor Martin Landolt (52) sees it similarly: “I don’t see why protection concepts should be stricter than in the gym, for example.”
“Specifications obviously designed on the desktop”
“Obviously, such specifications were created on the desktop and, in some cases, hardly feasible,” says Candinas. And his party partner Bregy is convinced that “the tourism industry is capable of optimizing the concepts at any time if necessary.” In restaurants, not everything went well from the beginning, but it quickly improved.
Berset wants to reach a middle ground with his proposals. To avoid a dreaded crown wave during the holiday season, the EU, for its part, wants to completely suspend ski operations until January 10. Switzerland now has to hear the “profiteer” accusation. The German state of Bavaria, for example, now advises its residents not to go skiing in Switzerland. And President Emmanuel Macron (42) wants to prevent his French from traveling to ski resorts abroad during Christmas.
Don’t give in to pressure from neighboring countries
MPs agree that Berset wants to dampen pressure from abroad with stricter crown rules. “But we must not be pressured,” says Rösti. “Ski areas must be able to open. Otherwise it would be a disaster! “Bregy adds:” Nor did we ask Italy to close the beaches in summer. “
“We must not give in to pressure from our neighboring countries”, emphasizes the president of the FDP, Petra Gössi (44) through Twitter. But it is also important that everyone involved take responsibility. Both rail operators and guests would have to adhere to the rules to avoid a further increase in the number of cases.
It is also clear for the CVP National Councilor Candinas that the protection concepts must be met. “Here you can have some confidence in the responsibility of the cable cars,” he says. Nobody wants to become a corona hotspot! Because then the guests are guaranteed to leave. “
