The walk up the Stanserhorn ends fatally
A hiker had an accident on the north side of Stanserhorn on Monday night. The man who lives in the canton of Nidwalden was only able to recover dead.
(bev) The victim is a 50-year-old man from Germany who lived in the canton of Nidwalden. This was announced by the Nidwalden canton police on Tuesday evening.
Cantonal police received a report from a third party on Tuesday afternoon of the disappearance of a person residing in Nidwalden. The person had gone on a walk alone in the Stanserhorn area the night before.
Missing recovered dead after a search
According to the announcement, a large-scale ground and air search was immediately launched. Before dark, around 5.45pm, the missing man in the Kalcherli area was located from the air and later only recovered dead.
The cantonal police are now clarifying the exact course of the accident in cooperation with the Nidwalden prosecutor. About 15 Alpine Rescue Switzerland (ARS) rescuers from the Stans rescue station, an army helicopter from the Alpnach military airfield, a Swiss Air Rescue (Rega) helicopter from the Erstfeld base, a personal tracking dog from the Lucerne police, the prosecution service and the Nidwalden cantonal police were on duty.
