Following popular acceptance of the burqa ban, a demonstration took place in Bern on Sunday against the result of the vote. More than 150 people marched through the city center.
Consistently young men and women gathered at the train station to demonstrate against the yes to the burqa initiative. Then they marched to the Federal Palace.
The participants wore protective masks.
The police released the movement and, at times, accompanied it with riot police. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a maximum of 15 people can participate in a demonstration in the canton of Bern. The rally participants wore protective masks.
The protesters followed a call from the anarchist group Bern. The rally was directed, among other things, “against the normal racist, anti-Muslim and sexist state,” as one banner read.
Escorted by police vehicles
There was also a spontaneous demonstration against the burqa ban in Zurich. Numerous participants gathered in the Helvetiaplatz area to protest the result of the vote. Among other things, they called for an end to the “racist patriarchy” with posters.
The march began to advance towards Stauffacher and was escorted by police vehicles with flashing lights. (SDA / noo)
