80 people participated in the auction of the 16 restored historic vehicles from the disposal + recycling fund of Zurich (ERZ), as announced by the city of Zurich on Saturday. Only four vehicles found no buyers. They are available for purchase online.
Restored vehicles, trailers and small machines were auctioned under the direction of the Hardau Portico Pub. All the vehicles were related to the disposal of waste or the maintenance of streets and green spaces.
Highlights of the unusual collection were two historic Bern and Saurer dump trucks from 1946 and 1954, a garbage truck from 1972, and a sewer cleaner truck from 1987. Several motorized cars and small vehicles were also left under the hammer, including a cylinder mower built in 1965.
The veterans auction was held in connection with the “prosecution of misconduct by former ERZ management,” as the message stated. The “Oldtimer Museum” could now be dissolved and “the chapter closed.”
The collection was part of a “parallel world with its own rules” that the ERZ had established according to a 2019 external investigation report. In addition to the vehicles, ERZ also maintained five emus and a bathroom area for ERZ employees in an old clarifier. In addition, irregularities were discovered in company and private vehicles and three black boxes.
Former director Urs Pauli was fired without notice in 2018 and reported on suspicion of unfaithful conduct. Criminal proceedings were opened against a total of eight people.
The “ara smooth” lossy seminar operation will then be discontinued in the summer of 2021, according to the message. Thereafter, future use of the decommissioned wastewater treatment plant area is planned. (SDA)
