Athletics: the Diamond League increases
The Diamond League of athletes wants to expand its program again for next season. After reducing its scope to 24 disciplines by 2020, program items that were no longer considered (triple jump, discus, 200m, 3000m steeple and 5000m) are returning. However, the respective Diamond League winners in their disciplines will still be chosen in Switzerland at the beginning of September, on the occasion of the Weltklasse Zürich.
Swimming: Swiss record for Ponti
Noè Ponti smashed the Swiss record for the 100m dolphin at the Rotterdam meeting. At 51.24, the 19-year-old from Ticino initially beat Jérémy Desplanches’ one-and-a-half-year record by 1.04 seconds. In the final, Ponti climbed to 51.15 seconds and is therefore the world number 3 in 2020.
European volleyball championship in 4 countries
The venues for the 2021 men’s volleyball championship are known. The tournament will be held in Poland (Katowice, Gdansk, Krakow), Czech Republic (Ostrava), Estonia (Tallinn) and Finland (Tampere). The exact dates of the game have yet to be determined. A qualifying tournament in January will decide whether Switzerland will participate.
Lakers stretch out with master creators
NBA champion LA Lakers extends contracts with superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The club did not provide information on the new conditions. Davis came to Los Angeles from New Orleans in 2019, James has been on the court for the Lakers since 2018. Media reported that the 35-year-old had agreed to a 2-year extension until 2023. Davis (27) received a contract from 5 years with a total of $ 190 million with the 17-time NBA champion.
