In recent days, the number of new Covid-19 infections has increased significantly in the canton of Zug.
After the number of new corona infections in the canton of Zug has increased significantly, the health department of the canton of Zug has drawn attention to the fact that the distance and hygiene rules must be urgently observed, also in environments private. According to a press release from the health department, the contact tracing findings show: “Many infections occur in meetings with family and friends.”
According to the Department of Health website (as of Monday, October 5 at 8 am), 35 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours. The incidence at 7 days is 41.7 per 100,000 inhabitants. Two hospitalizations are reported. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 485 cases and 9 deaths have been registered in the canton.
The situation requires further attention
Canton doctor Rudolf Hauri assessed the situation as follows yesterday: “After more than two weeks with incidences of 7 days below 20 / 100,000, the number of cases has increased significantly in recent weeks, the incidence jumped to over 40 on the weekend. The number of hospitalized remains low. Contact tracing was very busy for days, but it works. The number of people in quarantine due to contact tracing has already increased significantly. “
According to the evaluation of the situation made by the cantonal doctor, this means that both the epidemiological situation and the situation of locating contacts are at “Level 2: greater attention”. So the situation is tense and requires more attention. “It should be possible to stabilize the number of infections, otherwise drastic measures should be considered,” Health Director Martin Pfister said in the message.
Cool weather increases the risk of infection
Contact tracing of current cases shows that meetings with family and friends lead to a comparatively high number of infections. Due to the cooler temperatures, these types of gatherings are increasingly being held indoors, significantly increasing the risk of infection. “Talking loudly or even singing increases the risk of infection on such occasions,” emphasizes the doctor from the canton of Zug, Rudolf Hauri. Therefore, the Zug Health Directorate urges all Zug residents to adhere to the well-known rules of hygiene and distance:
- Keep a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from other people.
- Wear protective masks if you can’t keep your distance
- Wash your hands regularly, avoiding hugging or shaking hands
- Non-participation of people with symptoms
In addition to this recommendation to the population, the Health Directorate is also continuously reviewing other measures so that the spread of the coronavirus can be stopped in a timely manner. “We are at a crucial point in this pandemic. Now it is important not to give up ”, emphasizes Martin Pfister.
