Due to the second wave, more than 80 percent of those surveyed assume that normalcy will return to normal in the summer of 2021 at the earliest. Concerns about social isolation and loneliness increased from 30 percent in June to 46 percent in October. This was the result of the last SRG Corona Monitor released on Friday, for which responses from around 42,425 respondents were included in the analysis.

With the second wave of corona, fear of the disease also increased: 45 percent of those surveyed said they were afraid of it. This does not fully correspond to the value at the beginning of the pandemic in March, but it is significantly more than in June (31 percent).

28 percent would not be vaccinated

Personal freedoms remain the main concern. 55 percent of the population considers this to be one of the main fears in relation to the pandemic.

63 percent said they would be more cautious as the number of cases increases. Only 16 percent would get vaccinated immediately if a Covid 19 vaccine were approved in Switzerland, 28 percent would generally refrain from getting vaccinated. The majority of the population will decide depending on the situation, what it is also called.

Wide approval of mask requirement

At present, there is widespread support for expanding the mask requirement. 64 percent are more or less in favor of mandatory use at work. A clear majority (59 percent) also believe that it is correct that the mask requirement also applies outdoors, at least in some areas.

The slowdown measures decided by the Federal Council on October 28 also have the support of the population. Two thirds of the respondents are in favor of these restrictions. Meanwhile, approval for a short shutdown increased: While 49 percent of the population had spoken in favor by Oct. 28, approval rose to 54 percent in the days after.

Confidence in the Federal Council is waning

Only 37 percent of those surveyed said before the tightening of the measures that they have great or very great confidence in the Federal Council; in June it was 66 percent. In the following days, however, this value rose again to 44 percent.

The survey carried out by the Sotomo research center on the 5th SRG Corona Monitor was carried out in two segments. The main evaluation lasted from October 23 to 28, 2020. A total of 34,872 people participated. In order to examine the direct effects of state government resolutions, the duration of the survey was extended to November 2. During this time, another 7,553 interviews were conducted. The sampling error is plus or minus 1.1 percentage points.
