Money for retraining: Greens call for social cushioning for second wave of Covid – News

  • The Greens presented a green and social stimulus program with three pillars at their delegates’ meeting.
  • The three pillars comprise a solar energy offensive, a watchful offense, and a training offensive.
  • The training offensive is all about the social cushioning of the second wave Covid. In view of the many unemployed due to the crisis, an additional education and retraining offensive by the federal government is necessary, said party chairman Balthasar Glättli.

In his speech to delegates present online, Glättli stated that the party was calling for a social cushioning of the second wave of Covid, which would be “effective in terms of employment” and at the same time accelerate the transformation towards a green economy.

There should not be another 1.88 billion francs – specifically for the aviation industry – and that “without environmental conditions,” he emphasized. Therefore, it proposes a green and social stimulus program with three pillars.

Solarstromoffensive

First, the energy transition can be boosted with a solar energy offensive. According to Glättli, the electricity supply should be 100 percent renewable by 2035 at the latest. In addition to hydroelectric power, in the future a third of the necessary electricity will be produced by photovoltaic systems.

To achieve this goal, funding for the expansion of renewables must double at least from the current 1.3 billion Swiss francs a year. “The Greens are calling for solar energy to be discontinued,” Glättli said.

Offensive training

Second, with an additional training offensive, the Greens want to “shake hands with the people in transformation as a society.” The approximately 150,000 people who are currently registered as unemployed should receive specific support with more training and retraining. The Federal Council should adopt an educational voucher program worth 500 million Swiss francs.

Beware-offensive

Third, the Greens call for a care offensive worth one billion Swiss francs each for the care sector and for the care of children beyond the family. Those responsible for the emergency care are not only the lack of training support, but also the unattractive working conditions, both in childcare and childcare.

Compound slogans

The Greens also settled on numerous slogans at the delegates meeting. The War Material Initiative and the Corporate Responsibility Initiative were clearly accepted “in the Landsgemeinde way,” as Glättli put it. An exact count of the votes will be made based on screenshots from the history books, Glättli said.

The Greens summarize four slogans of yes:

The Greens have adopted the following slogans:

  • Yes corporate responsibility initiative slogan
  • Yes motto to the war accords initiative

These two initiatives will be put to a vote on November 29.

Additionally:

  • Yes slogan of the pesticide initiative
  • Yes slogan of the drinking water initiative

Both initiatives should be voted on next year.

Follow:

  • No motto to the economic agreement with Indonesia

The referendum was formally held in July.
