In an Afro wig and face painted black: Markus Heim (58), a St. Gallen snack bar entrepreneur, disguised as a Mohrenkopf man, caused a stir in June when he sold Dubler “Mohrenköpf” from his sausage stand in Rorschach SG. “What I did was a purely business promotion and nothing more,” Heim told BLICK at the time.
But the action now has legal consequences for Mohrenkopf’s man, as “Der Rheintaler” reports. Heim has now received a sanction order for racial discrimination. The verdict: a conditional fine of 30 daily rates of 30 francs each for a two-year trial period.
The prosecutor sees Mohrenkopf’s action as offensive
The prosecution stated in the order that the debate on racism was rekindled in Switzerland in the wake of the murder of African-American George Floyd.
For the prosecution responsible, it is clear: “With the disguise in combination with the product, Markus Heim had to expect to discriminate and insult dark-skinned people when he appeared in public.”
Mohrenkopf man keeps selling Dubler “Mohrenköpf”
Mohrenkopf’s man is unlikely to continue with the penalty order. “I don’t feel like bothering myself anymore,” Heim says of the “Rheintaler.” But the penalty order does not prevent Heim from continuing to sell Dubler “Mohrenköpfe” at its booth.
It was only on Sunday that Heim was seen by a BLICK reader at Eschlikon TG. Instead of black, he had made up his face white. In light of the recently issued sanction order, Heim’s latest action is provocative, but this time there are no legal consequences for Mohrenkopf’s man. (wheel)
