There is no longer a place on retail shelves for discriminatory food names. Migros, Coop and Co. are adjusting their product ranges, but sometimes rely on outside information.
As in the case of the “Gypsy Cervelat”, in which the online portal Nau.ch helped Migros. This special production is a beer filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon, which is known by terms such as “cordon bleu worker”, “Schützenwurst” or simply “beer cordon bleu”, as the portal writes.
Migros seeks to speak with suppliers
However, until recently, “Gypsy Cervelat” from Fidelio Produkte AG was still available in the LeShop range, Migros’ online supermarket. The product was only removed from the offer at the request of Nau.ch. The term “gypsy” is considered discriminatory and is rejected by the Sinti and Roma organizations.
“We are aware of the problem and are already in discussions with our supplier. For us it is important that our products do not discriminate against anyone and we are happy to receive relevant information ”, says Migros. (koh)
