Hernán Crespo, a former colleague of Lionel Messi’s national team, speculates that the Barcelona superstar’s departure did not work out because of his father.
In an interview with Argentine television “TyC Sports”, the 45-year-old ex-professional said that Jorge Vater, who also acts as Lionel’s advisor, is in charge of ensuring that his son cannot leave FC Barcelona this summer: “In This situation requires a professional advisor. With all due respect to Jorge Messi, it just isn’t the same. ”
The father of the five-time world footballer had negotiated independently with those responsible for the Catalans to advance the planned departure of his filius. In the end, however, this plan failed because the Barça leaders would only have agreed to sell the Argentine offensive player if an interested party had been willing to activate the 700 million euro buyout clause.
“A professional advisor does not get involved in family problems and that is why he has a different distance,” says Crespo, who suspects that the superstar would have left with another agent.
