Daimler’s car subsidiary Mercedes-Benz is getting more involved in the ailing British luxury car maker Aston Martin Lagonda. Mercedes wants to give the British access to new technologies.

The companies announced this Tuesday in Stuttgart and Gaydon. Daimler is increasing its stake from the current 2.6 percent to a maximum of 20 percent, it said.

The Stuttgart-based company will receive new Aston Martin shares that will be issued over the next three years in several steps up to a total value of £ 286 million (CHF 337 million). Aston Martin will receive next-generation electric and hybrid powertrains and other vehicle components and systems, among other things.

The British, who are known for, among other things, cars from the James Bond movies, have been suffering from a recession for some time and have high hopes for their first SUV of their own called the DBX.
