“As of today, I am among the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones due to opioid addiction,” wrote Melissa Etheridge, 58, on her Twitter account. “My son Beckett, just 21, struggled with his addiction for a long time and lost the fight today.”

The pain is endless: “Everyone who loves him, his family and friends will miss him very much.” Etheridge himself was devastated: “My heart is broken. I am grateful to all who have condoled me and feel their love and deep pain.”

What else could we have done?

Etheridge was also thinking of his own options: “We are struggling with what else we could have done to save him.” The only consolation was: “Ultimately, we now know that he is no longer in pain.”

Melissa Etheridge now finds a support piece in music, the singer ends in her sad post: “I will sing again soon, that has always brought me healing.”
