In the men’s combined World Cup, two Swiss men battle for medals. Loïc Meillard and Luca Aerni promise in the post-Super-G race. Young Canadian James Crawford sets the fastest time with starting number 32.
Frenchman Alexis Pinturault created the best starting position for slalom, in which a four-way battle for medals is announced. The defending champion’s reserve, who set the second fastest time in the Super-G behind surprise man James Crawford, over his main competitors is low. Marco Schwarz, who was the most consistent slalom rider at the World Cup this winter, lost 32 hundredths to favorite Pinturault, Meillard 35 and Aerni 45 hundredths.
Luca Aerni, who was aiming for 15th place in the Super-G, is pleasantly surprised. “I didn’t want to be a second and a half behind (after Super-G),” the seventh-place winner told SRF. Now the podium is within reach, and conditions are right for the Swiss. “The slope looks very good, hard and icy. Now take a good look around and then relax, ”Aerni says casually. “I am ready to fully attack.”
Gino Caviezel was only slightly slower than the two fastest Swiss. However, the man from Graubünden is not such a strong slalom rider. Justin Murisier, the fourth Swiss participant, will have nothing to do with the decision within a good second and a half.
The battle for the podium will be decided soon. After a change in the regulations, the classification of the first part corresponds to the combination of the start list for the only slalom race. This starts at 3:20 pm
