An explosion in the media industry: Jonas Projer will be the new director of “NZZ am Sonntag”
Now it’s official: well-known television journalist Jonas Projer will be the new editor-in-chief of “NZZ am Sonntag” starting in September. It should take the newspaper to the next digital phase. The current boss goes due to different opinions on future development.
(abi / rwa) Now what CH Media found out on Thursday night has been confirmed: there will be a change of boss in “NZZ am Sonntag”, and that is difficult. Former editor-in-chief Luzi Bernet will finish his job. Opinions on the subsequent development of the newspaper were different, the NZZ justified in a message on Friday about the measure.
Jonas Projer will assume command from September. The 39-year-old comes from Blick TV. The first real-time television in Switzerland aired just a year ago. The front man is editor-in-chief Projer, who grew up hosting the Swiss television SRF “Arena,” which he ran for almost five years. On Blick TV, Projer initially worked in the background, but recently he was seen often in front of the camera, for example, in the vote the previous Sunday.
After completing the construction work, Projer decided to leave Blick TV, Ringier writes in a press release. Consequently, the “NZZ am Sonntag” approached Projer with a specific offer. It is not yet clear who will succeed him on Blick TV. A management team of six people takes over the management on an interim basis.
Updating the digital area
What is clear, however, are the expectations of his future employer: Projer should take “NZZ am Sonntag” to the next digital phase. The print edition will continue to play a central role in the future, NZZ writes in its ad. “At the same time, we have to drive digital change with our Sunday title.” Projer has a “deep experience” in the digital field and the “necessary strategic foresight”.
From a NZZ boardroom point of view, Luzi Bernet was probably not the right person for this. It is not yet clear how it will fare. Discussions are taking place about a possible new role within the NZZ media group. In the announcement, Etienne Jornod, Chairman of the Board of NZZ Media Group, thanked Bernet for “his excellent work and his long-term commitment to ‘NZZ am Sonntag'”.
