On the seventh attempt, Germany celebrated their first Nations League victory. Joachim Löw’s team beat Ukraine 2-1.

Suddenly, the second match of the Swiss group between Ukraine and Germany was exciting again: in the 77th minute, Niklas Süle Roman Yaremchuk slipped unnecessarily into the area and caused a penalty. Ruslan Malinovskiy turned this into a 1: 2 draw. However, in the final 20 minutes Ukraine failed to equalize.

Germany had previously controlled the game and deservedly led:

  • 0: 1, 20. Minute: After a free kick, central defender Antonio Rüdiger acts in striker style, passes the ball over his rival and plays in the middle against his colleague Matthias Ginter, who easily becomes the leader.
  • 0: 2, 48. Minute: After a mistake by the Ukrainian goalkeeper Georgij Buschchan, Leon Goretzka of Bayern Munich reacts faster than the Ukrainians and increases with a header.

Negative series stopped

Germany and the League of Nations had yet to concede. The 2014 world champion failed to win a single victory in 6 games. With the victory against Ukraine, Germany moved up to second place in the table.
