Victory against Barrage’s rivals: Aarau earned the necessary luck in a 1-0 win against Schaffhausen
After a sovereign first half, Aarau has to fear for victory in the end. The winner of the match is Donat Rrudhani, who hit a penalty in the first half.
Between minutes 30 and 36 there were three controversial scenes in the guests’ penalty area: It started with a tackle by Schffhausen captain Neitzke against Aarau striker Filip Stojilkovic, the latter falling. In real time, the case seems clear: Penalty for Aarau and red for emergency brake for Neitzke. But the referee Kanagasingam decides on Aarauer’s swallow and warns him. A brave decision, but after looking at the television pictures, it was probably the right decision. Because a contact between Neitzke and Stojilkovic is not recognizable.

Again the scene is controversial, but due to Rrudhani’s cunning (he puts his foot in the opponent) the referee has no other option: Rrudhani himself steps forward and scores with a low shot to make it 1-0 for the team local.

This result remains until the end. The victory of the FCA is deserved: more occasions were played and it was dominated in a playful way during long phases. But competitive luck is also needed for all three points: midway through the second half, Rodríguez from Schaffhausen shoots free from five meters above the goal. A little later, Lika misses from the best position as he throws the ball into the arms of FCA goalkeeper Simon Enzler. And in the 89th minute, Aarau defender Jérôme Thiesson was lucky when he struck the ball in his own penalty area, Schaffhauser didn’t realize the mistake quickly enough and suddenly Enzler found himself sitting on the ball.

On the other hand: if Liridon Balaj had seized at least one of his three big chances, FC Aarau would not have had to tremble for victory until the last minute of the match. And in the 94th minute, the linesman raised the offside flag after substitute Silvan Schwegler’s supposed 2-0 run, while the midfielder was on the same level as Schafhausen’s defense when the ball fell.

The “how” does not matter in the end: the fact is that FC Aarau won the big game, achieved an important victory against a direct competitor and equaled the Schaffhausen team on points (both 44). Nine days before the end, the Aarauer can still calculate great bombardment possibilities.
