After the third round, Tiger Woods must take the victory in the Masters tournament. Dustin Johnson is close to victory.
For two rounds at the 84th US Masters in Augusta, Tiger Woods held the 16th title chances in a Grand Slam tournament. In the third round, the superstar must accept the decisive setback.
Tiger Woods, who had only played six tournaments and failed to achieve a superior result after resuming play in the United States in June, started at Augusta National Golf Club with a fabulous flawless round of 68 (4 under par).
Accumulation increased
He was unable to maintain this level in the second round, had to split it over two days of play due to severe delays, and in the third round. Without playing bad, he had scores of 71 and 72 strokes.
Woods had to let his deficit grow so large that he can no longer win the tournament in the final round alone, but at the most when the pros clearly ahead of him fail in ranks.
Belated win of Dustin Johnson
In the 3rd round, world number one Dustin Johnson played unleashed. With 65 strokes (7 under par), the 36-year-old American hurried away from the competition. Before the final round he is in the lead by four or more strokes.
Despite the outstanding achievements he has been making for years, Johnson has only won one tournament at the Grand Slam level, the 2016 US Open. The second major victory is overdue.
Langer with an age record
Bernhard Langer set a new age record on Friday. The 63-year-old German went on to be the oldest player in Masters history. The previous age record as a participant in the second half of the tournament was set by American Tommy Aaron in 2000 (63 years, one month and 16 days). Two-time Masters Langer champion is a month and a day older.
