(zim) In 2012, at the World Cup at home in Crans Montana, Marc Gisin tore a cruciate ligament in his knee. When he fell in Kitzbühel in January 2015, he suffered a traumatic brain injury with a brain hemorrhage. It got even worse in December 2018 when it fell into the Val Gardena descent. The tall athlete suffered another traumatic brain injury, in addition to several broken bones and a compressed lung, which almost cost him his life. Unfortunately, his body never fully recovered from the serious injuries. For this reason, Marc Gisin decided to retire from top-level sport, as Swiss-Ski announced on Monday.

Marc Gisin contested the first race of the World Cup in Wengen in 2009. 100 more starts were made at the highest level of competition. The 32-year-old athlete was primarily at home in sprinting disciplines. His best World Cup results were two-fifths at the Kitzbühel Streif. However, Gisin was unable to step forward.
