The landslide in Ask, about 40 kilometers north of the capital Oslo, occurred early Wednesday morning. It expanded to a length of about 700 meters and a width of 300 meters. At least ten people were injured. Nine houses collapsed as a result of the departure, others are at risk of collapsing.
The missing people lived in the affected area, but it is not clear if they were at home at the time of the accident. For the first time, emergency services were able to enter the disaster area on foot. Before that, helicopters and drones had been used to search for survivors from the air because parts of the disaster area were unstable.
Unclear exact cause
Norway was hit by a similar landslide in the summer. At that time, the exit near Alta in the far north of the country dumped several houses and shacks into the sea. People were not injured. As it was then, the nature of the soil is now expected to have something to do with the landslide. The exact reason for Ask’s exit is unclear so far. Recently it had rained a lot in the region.
