SVP Sigriswil 2020 only received a short life. As soon as it was founded, the name of the party was banned again. The dispute over Grand Councilor Madeleine Amstutz (41) of Sigriswil BE is entering the final round.
Amstutz has come under fire for a dispute over its spending reports. His local SVP section later banned him from supporting the municipal elections. So Amstutz quickly founded his own party: “SVP Sigriswil 2020”. Which in turn called all SVP bodies from the local section to SVP Canton Bern to SVP Switzerland, which did not enjoy using the party name.
Super Provisional Provision
Now, the Oberland regional court has spoken a word of power: the new movement with around 50 members cannot use the acronym SVP. As the «Berner Zeitung» reports, SVP Switzerland has reached a super-provisional order. The new movement should not call itself SVP or use the abbreviation in public statements.
Team Abstutz has already renamed the party the “New Sigriswil People’s Party”. Only: According to the “Berner Zeitung”, the abbreviation SVP was still in the election announcements.
If the new party does not adhere to the ban, it faces a fine of up to 10,000 Swiss francs. Due to the local dispute, Amstutz is currently on strike as head of the SVP parliamentary group in the cantonal parliament of Bern. (gbl)
