St. Gallen goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi is racially abused by rival fans during the away game in Lugano. The club apologizes.
St. Gallen has its first loss in the fifth round of the Super League. The leader loses in Ticino to also undefeated (and new runner-up in the table) FC Lugano 0: 1. Numa Lavanchy scored the only goal early.
A tweet from the home team made headlines on the night of the game. In it, FC Lugano apologizes for the incidents in Cornaredo. Ticino “fans” had covered FCSG goalkeeper Zigi with monkey noises over and over again during the game.
“We would like to apologize to FC St.Gallen and the player. There must be no place for racism. The club will do everything possible to find those responsible, ”the club wrote in an initial statement. FC St.Gallen has yet to comment on this.
