The suitcases are packed. Everything is ready for the journey. Only one question remains: does the vaccination card have to be in my luggage?
For months there has been debated the question of whether there will be mandatory vaccinations on international travel. The Australian airline Qantas is already planning it. At the moment, however, it does not appear to be rapidly becoming mandatory in Switzerland. This is what Carsten Spohr (54), the head of the Swiss parent company Lufthansa, said in an interview with the German newspaper “Welt am Sonntag”.
Tested or vaccinated
Therefore, Lufthansa expects three phases. First, a quick test is needed for more and more destinations. Then you should have a negative corona test or a vaccination. “In time, hopefully we will achieve sufficient immunity among the world’s population at some point. This would also make the vaccination certificate superfluous, ”says Spohr.
No mandatory vaccination is provided, as planned by Qantas. “No, we as an airline cannot and do not want to prescribe that,” said the Lufthansa boss.
No global determination
Uniform global regulation is not to be expected. After all, Spohr wants a European solution: “Test instead of quarantine.” If Europe takes a uniform approach, it will provide clarity and safety for passengers. (lui)
