Crown mutation at Maihof school: school will be closed next week

The Maihof school in Lucerne will be closed next week. As the school announced on Friday, the school leadership was informed on Wednesday by the cantonal contact tracing team about the infection of a child with the mutated variant of the coronavirus. Now the school has decided on far-reaching measures: All students will be tested this Friday afternoon, according to a letter to parents. The cantonal doctor and the cantonal health department have ordered a massive test for all the students and teachers who have been at the Maihof school this week. Test results will probably not be released today, Friday. Families of children who tested positive should be contacted within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, four more students have tested positive for the corona virus, as can be seen in the cantonal office order. It has not yet been determined if this is also the mutation. One of the children had lunch at the school lunch table, where 83 children from all classes come and go.
According to the order, all elementary school children must be quarantined until Monday, February 8, inclusive. Parents and other family members of children who tested negative are excluded. Since all students and all teachers at Maihof Primary School must go into quarantine, distance learning will take place next week.
Starting February 6 there will be two weeks of school holidays. According to the letter, the school management hopes to be able to resume regular school operations after the holidays.
Kindergarten classes in Schötz quarantined
Schools in the Lucerne countryside are also affected by corona cases. As PilatusToday reports, two kindergarten classes are under quarantine at Schötz after two teachers and a child tested positive for the corona virus within a few days. 32 children are affected. Director Peter Bigler describes the procedure as a precautionary measure.
“Because the two classrooms are close to each other and use a common entrance, we decided, in consultation with the canton’s doctor, to quarantine the two kindergarten classes,” said the principal. The 32 children have no symptoms of illness.
